
USA: The Chilean pavilion at Boston Seafood Expo 2024 seeks to increase our country’s presence in the United States, the main destination for our seafood shipments in the world.
Until today, ProChile will be present at the 42nd edition of the Seafood Expo North America (SENA), which is taking place in Boston, United States, the most important seafood fair in America, in which a total of 1,210 companies are participating. exhibitors. from 49 countries and where the ProChile pavilion brought together ten companies, with a varied offer of Chilean fish and seafood, both aquaculture and fishing.
The companies present in the ProChile pavilion are Inmuebles Cataluña (Pesquera Dani), Inversiones Coihuín (Manuelita Acuícola), Pesbasa, Integra Chile, Pacific Gold, St. Andrews Smoky Delicacies, Mar de Lagos, Pesquera Landes, Pesquera Trans Antartic and Salmones Aysén . . The first six correspond to the Los Lagos Region, the next two to Biobío and the last two to the Metropolitan Region. They were joined by 13 other Chilean companies that are participating with their own stands, such as the salmon farmers AquaChile, Multi X, Caleta Bay, Invermar, Salmones Austral, Salmones Antártica and Camanchaca, as well as the Chilean Salmon Marketing Council.
Chile is the world’s largest exporter of fresh and frozen salmon fillets, mussels, and frozen horse mackerel, with the United States being the main destination market for Chilean seafood, with shipments of US$3,104 million in 2023, equivalent to 35% of the total . . In addition to those mentioned, this market sells deep-sea cod, prawn, Carraghenina (seaweed), southern hake and crab.
ProChile’s Commercial Attaché in New York, Andrea Sapag, explained that “in the United States, our products stand out for their safety, quality and traceability processes, which translates into the total number of shipments destined for this market.”
Likewise, he added that “the Chilean aquaculture and fishing industry is characterized by offering sustainable and high-quality products. They are healthy and great-tasting food options, with high protein content, essential oils such as Omega 3 and vitamins, which today is highly valued by consumers.”

Fernando Prieto, sales manager of St. Andrews, valued that “for many years we have been working with ProChile, which is a very important partner and not only at the level of international fairs, but also in activities and events that take place in Chile. The public-private alliance is a fundamental pillar in the development and maintenance of markets and in that we are very grateful for the work they do.”
For his part, Sebastián Alvial, commercial director of Integra Chile, indicated that in this version they are presenting “value-added products from Atlantic salmon as well as Coho salmon.”
In his opinion, international fairs are “a good opportunity to be able to meet in person with our clients, something to which we give special importance, and thus continue strengthening our commercial relationship with them. On the other hand, also the possibility of meeting with potential clients, with whom we have already coordinated meetings. Finally, as a fair, it is interesting to know and see market trends, new developments that other exhibitors will present in this version.”
Regarding the presence in the ProChile Pavilion, he stated that “we believe that going out as a group as a country to present the products associated with our industry generates a positive impact on those who visit the pavilion. We have always had the support of the ProChile team, in prior coordination and on the ground during the fair.”
Exports
Chilean seafood exports last year reached US$8,989 million, with a growth of 1.8% compared to 2022. It is the third most relevant export sector in the country, only surpassed by Mining and the Agricultural Sector. The main exported product was salmon and trout with US$6,505 million (72% of the total), followed by fish and crustacean meals, fish oils, horse mackerel, Chilean mussels, algae, cuttlefish and sea urchins, among others.
The regional director of ProChile in Los Lagos, Ricardo Arriagada, highlighted that the region is the main producer and exporter of these foods nationwide and valued the good results obtained last year. “Los Lagos exported US$6,526 million in 2023, with a growth of 0.9% compared to 2022. This year we want to continue strengthening the effort to promote exports globally, so participation in international fairs such as Boston Seafood Expo is very relevant.”
