With the objective of generating a gender policy proposal and prioritizing axes of intervention, a diagnosis of perceptions of gender equality was carried out in the company Salmones Austral, in collaboration with a team of researchers from the University of Los Lagos, in the framework of the Territorial Research Networks (RTI) project “Reducing gender gaps in the salmon industry: pilot of a gender policy in the company Salmones Austral”.

The results of this research were presented at a conference organized by Sernameg, for the exchange of different experiences in this field, which have been carried out in different public and private organizations. “This is a contribution to the work that the company has already started, to delve into its perceptions and challenges regarding gender gaps, but supported by a research team from the University of Los Lagos, made up of professionals from engineering, psychology, sociology and communications,” highlighted Mirna Brauning, project director.

Pamela Amthaur, in charge of Welfare and member of the Salmones Austral Equity Board, highlighted that the work carried out by the research team is progress. ”We are happy with the team’s willingness and the time they gave us to apply a diagnosis that provides us with important elements to establish a policy for the company,” he commented.

In summary, the research will serve to advance equality between men and women in the company, through the generation of a gender diagnosis and policy, thus contributing to the sustainability of the industry. At the same time, deepen the gender diagnosis, covering a greater number of workers, and thus increase the level of knowledge about perceptions regarding gender equality in the company.  Establish intervention priorities, according to what is included in the diagnosis, and the main gaps detected and co-construct a gender policy proposal for the company, which supports advances in gender equality over time.
