The activity focused on how to reconcile work, family and personal life, ending with a panel of prominent representatives of public and private entities.

More than 200 people came to the auditorium of the Puerto Montt headquarters of Inacap to participate in the “Second Meeting for Gender Equality”; activity organized by SalmonChile and which is part of the actions that the union is promoting in pursuit of a cultural change that allows greater participation and leadership of women in salmon farming.

The activity was attended by the presidential delegate of Los Lagos, Giovanna Moreira; the regional governor, Patricio Vallespín; the Seremi of Women and Gender Equality, Macarena Gré; the Minister of Economy, Luis Cárdenas, representatives of the member companies of the Roundtable for Gender Equality promoted by SalmonChile, as well as workers and social organizations, among other actors. The day culminated with a talk by the renowned Team Chile athlete and former “MasterChef” participant, Natalia Duco, who shared with the attendees the challenges and complexities that she has had to face to reconcile her role as a mother, psychologist and high-performance athlete.

Marcela Bravo, Director of Studies and Projects at SalmonChile, stated that these two years since the creation of the Gender Equality Roundtable have had hard work. “It is a cultural change that we have to make in companies. “We are generating diagnoses, indicators and objectives, and executing different initiatives such as this meeting, which addresses relevant issues, for which we must work to increase the number of women in the industry and in leadership positions.”

For her part, Natalia Duco highlighted that “this Roundtable for Gender Equality and the event we had is a tremendous step towards the right direction. I think we all realized that there are many challenges to face, but as well as challenges, there are opportunities for growth and development. And SalmoncChile is taking charge of making a change, of including women, of opening the doors and giving them equal opportunities to express everything they can deliver. The important thing now is to set short, medium and long-term goals, so that frustrations are not gained and the objectives are taken together, achievable and realistic. A very nice, very honest energy was generated. There were many women and men participating, listening and opening up about this topic, which is inclusion, and something also so important is how one deals with professional work and family life.

For Francisco Lobos, manager of People, Sustainability and Corporate Affairs at Multi X, management of gender issues starts through talent, in order to support different activities to make the strategy visible.
«We look for talent without distinction of gender. From the Governance point of view, today we have a committee for equity. This committee has a board of directors and is managed by four people who report to the company’s board of directors and general management, and it is the committee that sets the agenda. One of the initiatives they have addressed is the joint work with Comunidad Mujer, where they made a diagnosis, evaluated whether there were infrastructure, cultural, and salary gaps, in addition to making a diagnosis of co-responsibility,” said Lobos.

«From there they designed a work plan and we are currently experiencing a second stage, related to partnering with Women Entrepreneurs to begin generating training and training for professionals, to begin planning what their projects or career plan are. It is very attractive to see how this gender dynamic is forming part of organizations and how organizations are evolving,” said the Multi X executive.
