Municipal initiative seeks to improve access to medical checkups in the workplace
A total of 111 medical services were provided during a health operation at the Salmones Austral company in Chamiza, as part of the “Municipal Health in Your Company” program, promoted by the Municipality of Puerto Montt. The objective of the activity was to provide preventive screenings to employees, especially women, for the early detection of diseases such as breast and cervical cancer.
During the day, health teams performed 20 Pap smears and 31 mammograms, in addition to 60 preventive medicine evaluations, aimed at identifying health conditions that can be treated promptly.
Midwife Natalia Núñez, in charge of the operation, emphasized the importance of these initiatives. “We are working on a second line with women in companies, administering screenings for breast and cervical cancer, diseases with high mortality rates in our country. The idea is to provide early detection and, at the same time, make these services available so that they can access checkups at their workplace,” she explained.
The workers appreciated the initiative, highlighting the ease of access to medical checkups without affecting their work schedules. “It’s very good and beneficial that they can come to the plant, because it’s often difficult for us to get to a doctor’s office. In a short time, I completed most of the tests to determine my health status,” said Nataly Rojas, a company employee.
From the Salmones Austral administration, Pamela Amthauer, head of the wellness department, highlighted the positive impact of the operation. “We know that it’s often difficult for our employees to go to health centers, either due to time or financial constraints. This type of activity is part of the quality of life program we have for our employees, and this activity is part of that,” she stated.
The “Municipal Health in Your Company” program has carried out operations in various companies in the salmon and maritime sectors, including previous sessions in Caleta Anahuac focused on vaccinations against respiratory diseases and health screenings.
