SalmonChile and CORFO will hold a meeting on climate change and salmon farming

The initiative was born as a result of the Clean Production Agreement, signed by the union representing 10 production companies and 12 suppliers. The objective is to improve practices in matters such as the circular economy.

This Tuesday, August 20, the meeting “Sustainability and adaptation to Climate Change: Challenges for the Chilean salmon industry to 2050” will be held, which will feature the participation of the executive vice president of the Production Promotion Corporation (CORFO), José Miguel Benavente the president of SalmonChile, Arturo Clément; and the general manager of the Salmon Technological Institute (Intesal), Esteban Ramírez.

The initiative was born as a result of the Clean Production Agreement, signed by the union on behalf of 10 production companies and 12 suppliers. Its objective is to improve salmon farming practices and its value chain in matters related to the circular economy and climate change.

“The Agreement considered 42 actions within a period of 30 months, which concluded in March of this year. We are very happy with the results we have seen and the commitment on the part of the signatory companies, who voluntarily made progress to be more sustainable towards the future. This is a great first step that we hope will follow an hour of route that contains more initiatives linked to this matter,” highlighted the general manager of the Salmon Technological Institute, Esteban Ramírez.

The day, which will be held at the facilities of the Society for Manufacturing Development (SOFOFA), will culminate with a conversation panel on climate change and salmon farming, in which the vice-rector for research and doctorate of the Andrés Bello University, Carolina, will be present. Torrealba; the technical and sustainability manager of Camanchaca, Alfredo Tello; the general manager of Bioled, Cristina Navarro; and the INCA researcher, Doris Soto.
