Salmones Austral is developing a strong energy efficiency program, based on Law 21,305 that regulates the management of this resource among large consumers.
In this regard, the company’s Deputy Sustainability Manager, Jaime Molina, points out in an interview with Salmonexpert that “we are developing various initiatives in our greenhouse gas (GHG) emission mitigation and compensation plan. Within these initiatives, several are based on being more efficient, with the use of energy from various sources such as solar energy provision.
Also, according to the executive, “some of our centers are equipped with hybrid energy sources, which allows us to consume fewer fossil sources, reducing our consumption, minimizing our greenhouse gas emissions and reducing the noise we generate in our production. sustainable quality protein.”
The company states that they began this process due to article 2 of the Energy Efficiency Law:
“…Those companies that have had a total energy consumption for final use equal to or greater than 50 tera-calories during the previous calendar year must report annually to the Ministry of Energy their consumption due to energy use and their energy intensity for the previous calendar year.”
“… Through a resolution that will be published in the Official Gazette, the list of consumers that will be classified as “Consumers with Energy Management Capacity”, hereinafter “CCGE”. Those companies with energy consumption for final use over 50 tera-calories annually in the previous reported calendar year will have such quality.”
“The CCGE must implement, within a period of twelve months from the publication referred to in the third paragraph, one or more “Energy Management Systems”, hereinafter “EMS”, that cover at least 80% of its total energy consumption, which must remain current while it is considered CCGE or for one year from when it loses such quality.
“Once the SGE is implemented, the CCGE must send annually to the Ministry of Energy and the Superintendency, together with the report of their energy consumption for final use defined in the first paragraph, information on the opportunities detected and energy efficiency actions carried out and projected, also indicating the way in which the provisions of the fifth or sixth paragraphs are complied with, as appropriate.”
The obligation to implement an EMS (Energy Management System) may be fulfilled through the implementation of one or more non-certified EMS, complying with the requirements established in chapter 3 of the regulations (Articles 16 to 30).
