The event featured the participation of chefs from Chile, Peru, Venezuela, Bolivia, the Dominican Republic, Palestine and Cuba, who presented a variety of dishes made with Chilean salmon.
From October 7 to 12, Quellón became the stage for the eighth edition of the Quellón International Gastronomic Festival (FEGASQUE), an initiative that brought together cultures and flavors from different parts of the world. On this occasion, SalmonChile played a fundamental role in its realization, supporting the promotion of local gastronomy and highlighting the attributes of Chilean salmon.
The festival offered attendees the opportunity to enjoy more than 20 culinary preparations in which this protein was the undisputed protagonist. In them, chefs from Chile, Peru, Venezuela, Bolivia, the Dominican Republic, Palestine and Cuba, together with students of the Gastronomy specialty from the Rayén Mapu High School, presented a variety of dishes that highlighted the versatility and quality of salmon. In addition, cooking workshops were held in the different locations of the commune with musical presentations and traditional dances.
During these days, visits were also made to salmon farming processing plants, which were attended by the ambassadors of Algeria and South Africa, and the consul of Palestine.
The organizer of FEGASQUE, Guillermo Roa, said that “it was a great week, where we have brought – in addition to gastronomy – other cultural activities, where we hope that more initiatives can be realized in the coming years. We have a challenge and a commitment to young people in our community and we will continue to maintain that and we will continue to do important things.”
The territorial representative of SalmonChile in Chiloé, Pablo Moraga, stressed that “we are very happy to have participated again in this important regional event, where we were able to prepare everything from fresh ceviche to grills, with salmon as the main ingredient. It is important to be able to continue to promote these initiatives that bring together the inhabitants of the southern Austral region around gastronomy.”
In addition to SalmonChile, the partner companies also expressed their commitment to the event. The Human Resources Manager of Salmones Austral, Milton Castaing, stated that “we are part of the Quellón community and since our beginnings we have been actively linked to the territory, like any other neighbour. On this occasion, and as in previous years, we participated in and supported FEGASQUE, because it is an initiative that highlights the customs of this area, which is a great source of pride for us, and it is also an opportunity to share our salmon in a high-level gastronomic activity that is already part of the Quellón culture.”
For his part, the head of Yadran Communities, Oscar Izurieta, said that “we are very happy to be able to contribute again to this festival that, in one week, concentrates different activities in Quellón, contributing to the local culture and, specifically, to gastronomy. I would also like to highlight the transfer of culinary knowledge to the students of Quellón, who participated in entertaining training and who, without a doubt, leave a legacy in the Quellón cuisine.”
Finally, the Assistant Manager of Administration and Human Resources of Marine Farm, Douglas Hernández, highlighted that “we are committed to actively participate in the places where we are located. For this reason, once again, we are part of the Quellón International Gastronomic Festival, contributing our salmon with the aim of promoting a balanced diet in Chiloé, which provides all the necessary nutrients to keep us healthy.”
