The company’s goal is to apply all the biomass of the Coho salmon species in order for it to be certified antibiotic-free by Raised Without Antibiotics.
Salmones Austral recorded an important milestone in its operations by certifying antibiotic-free harvests throughout its entire production chain for the first time.
Jorge Leal, deputy health manager of the company, tells Salmonexpert that the center that was certified free of antibiotics is the Rollizo, of the Coho salmon species, located in the Reloncaví Estuary.
The certification obtained, meanwhile, is the Raised Without Antibiotics (RWA), which certifies its entire production chain without the use of antibiotics from eggs to harvest.
“Outside the sea center certified as antibiotic-free, the fish farms where the fingerlings and smolt were produced played an important role in their certification, these were Piscicultura La Tablilla and Piscicultura Caliboro,” details Leal.
The certified biomass is approximately 7,400 tons, a center that begins its harvest during September.
And the certification “was obtained for correct health performance based on a good selection of eggs from disease-free breeders, cleaning and disinfection of fish farms for their new production cycles, correct immunization of fish prior to entering the sea and permanent and stealthy surveillance.” health care by the health monitors of each center, supported by permanent veterinary visits,” says the executive.
“We are postulating a second center that should have its audit (RWA) at the end of September with a volume of approximately 6,800 tons. The goal for the next few years is to postulate all the biomass produced for the Coho salmon species,” says the Deputy Health Manager of Salmones Austral.
