Chile: Fjord Maritime Chile says the cutting-edge systems will modernize the Salmones Austral pontoons, adding additional redundancy, and a stable and secure power supply.

Salmones Austral placed an order for several hybrid energy systems for Fjord Maritime Chile feeder barges “Fjord Hybrid”.The systems, which will be delivered in the coming months, will reduce fuel consumption, CO2 emissions and reduce noise from diesel generators.Fjord Maritime Chile, which also has contracts to deliver its technology to several major producers in Chile, mentions that the cutting-edge systems will modernize the Salmones Austral pontoons, adding additional redundancy and a stable and secure power supply.

Salmones Austral will also be able to use the large amount of data collected through Fjord Maritime’s monitoring platform “Fjord Control” to further optimize energy consumption and biomass production in an even more sustainable way.

Steve Burns, General Director of Fjord Maritime for Chile, said: “Salmones Austral has sustainability at the heart of its production cycle and we are honored to be chosen to partner with its commitment to low-impact production. “Our hybrid technology and systems monitoring platform will ensure that Salmones Austral leads the way in reducing the carbon footprint in Chile.”

The Fjord Hybrid system comprises a battery bank and sophisticated controls. The batteries are charged with excess power from a barge’s diesel generator. The battery bank can be used in place of the generator for much of the time, reducing fuel consumption, CO2 emissions and extending the life of generators and equipment.

The contract with Salmones Austral will bring the number of Fjord Maritime hybrid systems in use to almost 200 worldwide.

Salmones Austral has more than 20 farming centers, located mainly in the Los Lagos Region, where the salmon grows from smolt until it reaches the appropriate weight to be processed and sent to various international markets.
